Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Cormier! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nate North! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cormier rushes North and presses him up against the cage. North wants a takedown.
Cormier lands a takedown into guard.
North seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Cormier trying to control but North is working from the bottom. Cormier looking to sit in guard and control but North gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Cormier has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. North is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cormier. Cormier tries to control the position but he's not in luck - North easily slips into full mount! North looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. North get's back to his feet. Cormier shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cormier showed some decent athleticism there. North slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. North throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.
North lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cormier! North prevents Cormier from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. North controlling the pace for now. Cormier looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. North really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Cormier. North is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Cormier is tapping out! This one is all over!
