Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jordan Burroughs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Dias! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dias fails with a takedown attempt. Burroughs gets a clinch. Burroughs misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Burroughs breaks the clinch.
Burroughs blocks a head kick by Dias.
Dias has his takedown stuffed and Burroughs counters by clinching up. Dias is trying to force a seperation but Burroughs has the dominant position. Burroughs pulls guard. Burroughs trying to control the position here. Dias got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burroughs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dias has managed to get both his arms back between Burroughs's legs - danger averted. My spies in Academia Ipanema inform me that Dias has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Burroughs looking for a sweep. That's one minute gone in the round. Burroughs has Dias pulled in close to control his posture. Dias trying to stand up but can't free himself from Burroughs's guard. Burroughs looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Burroughs moves in looking to clinch but Dias pushes him off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burroughs changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dias looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Burroughs remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Burroughs passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Dias! Burroughs working Dias over with strikes here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Dias wants to get back to his feet.
Dias looks winded! Burroughs controlling from the full mount. Burroughs with a couple of short strikes. Burroughs tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Burroughs get's back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burroughs decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Dias wants to get back to his feet. Burroughs performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Burroughs decides to return to a standing position. A momentary lapse in concentration from Dias enables Burroughs to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dias manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Burroughs not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Dias has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Burroughs off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Burroughs shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dias is trying to defend but Burroughs finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Burroughs with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dias is trying to stand up here but Burroughs is controlling him well. Burroughs content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Burroughs connects with a nice short shot to Dias's temple. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The ref stands the fighters back up because Jordan Burroughs just wasn't active enough. Burroughs closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dias to the mat! Dias manages to get full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burroughs looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Dias looks for a takedown but Burroughs sprawls well. Dias throws a looping overhand right but Burroughs ducks down to avoid it. Burroughs dives in for a single leg takedown but Dias sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Dias wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Dias breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Burroughs fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dias to the ground. Burroughs is now in Dias's guard.
Dias is rocked! Dias is breathing heavily. Burroughs gets to his feet - Dias follows without any prompting. Dias is still on wobbly legs! Can Burroughs finish him? Burroughs dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Dias has had enough and taps out.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jordan Burroughs! In his post fight interview, Jordan Burroughs gave a big smile as he said 'All I see is gold'.
