Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Dominguez ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ricardo Rodriguez! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez is looking to land body kicks. Rodriguez misses with a double jab.
Dominguez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rodriguez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Rodriguez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dominguez to the mat! Dominguez manages to get full guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Rodriguez engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Dominguez working a defensive guard here.
Rodriguez working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rodriguez working some strikes from top position. Dominguez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Rodriguez showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Rodriguez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rodriguez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dominguez is trying to keep Rodriguez in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rodriguez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Dominguez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Rodriguez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rodriguez sitting in guard, not really doing much. Dominguez manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rodriguez is desperately trying to improve his position but Dominguez has a good base and remains in mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez manages to regain half guard. Good work. Rodriguez is trying to maintain the position but Dominguez is very close to passing his half guard. Rodriguez keeping control of the position. Rodriguez is staying active underneath Dominguez , who seems content to just control the action from this position. Rodriguez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dominguez 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dominguez 's back! Dominguez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rodriguez's guard. Nice work there by Dominguez .
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Dominguez doesn't defend quickly enough and Rodriguez has managed to lock this one up! Can Dominguez escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Rodriguez on a fantastic submission victory.
