Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elisha Franks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ed McCracken! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCracken gets in close and instigates a clinch. McCracken taking a breather. McCracken tightens his grip and picks Franks up, before dumping him to the ground. Franks manages to land in guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. McCracken looking to pass the guard. McCracken throws a strike but Franks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Franks postures up in McCracken's guard and throws a big left but McCracken blocks it. Franks is working McCracken over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. McCracken looking to hit a scissor sweep but Franks is one step ahead there. Franks trying to control the position from guard on top but McCracken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McCracken doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Franks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCracken trying to keep a closed guard but Franks is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Franks stands and steps away. McCracken gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Ed McCracken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McCracken forces Franks back against the cage and clinches. Franks looking to slow down the pace here. McCracken ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McCracken no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Franks throwing strikes but missing. Franks wants to stand but McCracken has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Franks gets to his feet - McCracken follows without any prompting. McCracken shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. McCracken must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. McCracken is fighting to break Franks's control of his arms but Franks is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McCracken postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Franks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McCracken's guard. McCracken is controlling Franks's posture. Franks stands up and waves to McCracken to follow him. The fight stays on the outside here - McCracken looks like he's thinking about clinching though. McCracken gets in close and instigates a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McCracken has clasped his hands together around Franks's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Franks gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Franks is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McCracken's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McCracken's back! McCracken is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Franks has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, McCracken has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Franks trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McCracken just trying to survive but Franks is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. McCracken covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
McCracken is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. McCracken looks winded! McCracken is trying to break free.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Franks controlling the positon. Franks has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for McCracken! Can he survive? No! He's out! Franks gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
