PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Roy Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Armis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robinson comes to the cage accompanied by Redemption!!! from the movie Rocky II. Armis has chosen Mortal Kombat Theme as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Robinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eli Armis!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Watson and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Robinson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Armis shoots in for a takedown but Robinson shows good takedown defense.
Robinson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Armis.
Sloppy strikes from Armis. Those never looked like landing.

Robinson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Armis's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Robinson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Armis is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armis is trying to control the position but Robinson postures up.

Armis looking for a guillotine here but Robinson defends easily.
Robinson is pushing down on Armis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Armis is fighting to maintain full guard but Robinson has managed to sneak the leg through.

Robinson is looking to work some ground and pound but Armis has wrist control.
Armis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Robinson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Armis wants to sweep but no luck.
Robinson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Armis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Robinson tries to free his leg and advance position but Armis is retaining full guard.
Armis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Robinson is in all sorts of trouble here.
Armis with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Armis tries to control but Robinson wriggling away.
Robinson is looking to improve his position but Armis isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Robinson tries to hold on but Armis postures up.

Robinson is trying desperately to improve position.
Armis breaks from Robinson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Robinson is trying to escape the mount.
Robinson is working hard here to advance position.
Armis trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Robinson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Armis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Armis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Armis trying to control from half guard but Robinson is working away.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Robinson wants to improve his position but Armis is controlling well.

Armis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Robinson defends it well.
Robinson manages to get to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Armis wants to control from the top but Robinson keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Robinson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Armis's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roy Robinson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Armis connects with a looping right hand.
Armis chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Robinson can pounce on him.
Roy Robinson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Robinson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Armis.
Robinson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Armis darts in looking for a takedown but Robinson gets double underhooks and turns Armis into the cage.

Robinson gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Armis actively working from the bottom here.
Robinson prevents Armis from improving his position.
Robinson working over Armis with some ground and pound. Armis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Robinson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Armis reverses the position - he's now on top in Robinson's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Robinson controls Armis momentarily but Armis frees himself.

Roy Robinson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Robinson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Armis is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Robinson is trying to escape and Armis transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Robinson is forced to tap! Nice work there by Armis! Very nice indeed!
