Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sanford Mays!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roy Tunney!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tunney throws a head kick but Mays moves out of range.

Tunney closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mays wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Tunney is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mays is defending well for now.

Tunney's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tunney closes the distance and clinches.
Tunney scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Tunney has picked Mays up - he's going for a ride! Tunney dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Mays is looking to improve his position.
Tunney controlling the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tunney is looking to pass Mays's guard but actually Mays recovers to full guard.
Tunney controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Roy Tunney hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Tunney misses with a series of wild punches.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tunney closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tunney landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Mays preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Mays tries to roll over but Tunney keeps him under control.

Tunney seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mays could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tunney is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tunney wants to pass the guard but Mays is defending well.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Roy Tunney.

Mays tries to keep at a distance but Tunney has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mays has a closed guard, preventing Tunney from standing up.
Tunney engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tunney throws an elbow that misses. Mays uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tunney's guard. Nice move by Mays!

Tunney throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Tunney shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tunney was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Mays trying to remain calm as Tunney controls from the top position.

Tunney is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mays knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mays tries to buck Tunney off but Tunney is having none of it.

Mays regains half guard, as Tunney was trying to land strikes.

Tunney seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mays does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Tunney tries to advance to mount but Mays instead regains half guard.

Still in half guard, Tunney seems content to control.

Roy Tunney has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mays shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tunney but Tunney pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tunney shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Tunney content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Tunney showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Tunney slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Tunney closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mays tries to improve position but can't.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Tunney. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Mays is being controlled here.

Mays is not content to let Tunney control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Roy Tunney hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Tunney has managed to clinch.

Tunney has hold of one of Mays's legs. Mays is fighting the takedown attempt but Tunney gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Tunney slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tunney looking to sit in guard and control but Mays gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Tunney is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Tunney has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mays is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Tunney.

Mays tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mays has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Tunney is trying to control Mays's posture but Mays avoids it.

Well Tunney has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
