PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dr Dre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryuku Kuro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryuku Kuro will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dr Dre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ryuku Kuro!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dre misses with a takedown attempt

and Kuro moves into the clinch.
Kuro lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Dre tries to break free but Kuro pushes him back against the cage.
A short right from Kuro.
Kuro lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Kuro scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Kuro scores a nice knee to the body.
Dre is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kuro gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Dre misses with some punches.
Dre takes a knee to the side of the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kuro lands a nice uppercut.
Dre has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kuro avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dr Dre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Kuro obliges.
Dre is breathing heavily.
Kuro lands a nice uppercut.
Dre tries to score a body lock takedown but Kuro shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Dre jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kuro walks away with a smile on his face. Dre gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Dre shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kuro as he jumps to the side.
Dre has a takedown stuffed.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dre shoots in for a takedown but Kuro shows good takedown defense.
Dre fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kuro enables Dre to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kuro manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Dre postures up.
Kuro keeping moving, preventing Dre from controlling successfully.
Kuro wants to stand but Dre is controlling the position.

Dre thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kuro being controlled here, momentarily.
Kuro working a defensive guard here.
Kuro wants to sweep but no luck.
Dre wants to pass the guard but Kuro is keeping the position.
Kuro wants to stand up but Dre is controlling him.
Dre works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dre has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Dre wants to finish this one by submission but Kuro is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dre.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kuro can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dre postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kuro looks a forlorn figure.

Dre is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kuro to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kuro shrugs it off.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Kuro is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Dre is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kuro can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dre is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kuro can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Dre looking to finish Kuro with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kuro!

Dre working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Dre landing strikes from the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dre controlling the position easily from mount.

Dre is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Dre extends the arm and Kuro is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dr Dre!
During a confident post fight interview, Dr Dre thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
