Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, The Steel Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Crown! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steel Penn throws out a loose jab but Crown uses good head movement to avoid it. Some wild striking there from Steel Penn.
Steel Penn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Crown tries to close the distance and clinch but Steel Penn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Steel Penn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Steel Penn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. We've been hearing good reports from Steel Penn's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Steel Penn throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Crown pushes Steel Penn away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Steel Penn gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Steel Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Crown wants to control but Steel Penn postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steel Penn working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Steel Penn in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Steel Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Steel Penn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Steel Penn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Steel Penn goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Crown has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Steel Penn but great work by Crown. Crown tries to get to his feet but Steel Penn is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Crown in his guard. Crown looking to sit in guard and control but Steel Penn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Crown wants to sweep but no luck. Steel Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Steel Penn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Crown works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Crown trying to control the position.
Crown is pulling down on Steel Penn's head to control his posture. Steel Penn passes Crown's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn wants to pass the guard but Crown is defending well. Steel Penn seems to be working for a kimura but Crown defends the submission attempt. Crown wants to improve his position but Steel Penn is controlling well.
The fighters are battling for position here. Crown manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Crown is looking to stand up but Steel Penn isn't so interested in that idea.

Steel Penn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Crown manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Steel Penn has Crown in his guard. Crown wants to control from the top but Steel Penn keeps moving. Steel Penn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Crown's guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Crown wants to stand but Steel Penn is controlling the position. Steel Penn looking to pass the guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
The Steel Penn dominated that round. That's time! Steel Penn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Crown uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Steel Penn. A combination from Steel Penn does no damage. Crown ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Steel Penn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Crown is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Steel Penn is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Crown knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Crown is trying to get back to his feet. Crown is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Crown is looking for a sweep. Steel Penn is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The Steel Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Crown wants to get back to his feet. Steel Penn wants to pass the guard but Crown is defending well. Crown has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Crown keeping hold of Steel Penn's head, controlling as best he can. Steel Penn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Steel Penn is looking for a kimura but Crown is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Steel Penn to get the leverage. Steel Penn is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Crown is looking to improve his position but Steel Penn isn't that keen on the idea. Steel Penn jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Crown is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Crown and Steel Penn has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Crown is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Crown can't do much from the bottom here. Crown is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Steel Penn has just dragged him back down to the mat. Steel Penn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Steel Penn is trying to ground and pound but Crown uses the momentary lack of control by Steel Penn to regain half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Crown has managed to free his arm - good work. Steel Penn is working for a submission of some sort.
Steel Penn prevents Crown from improving his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
The Steel Penn dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Crown stuffs the takedown. Crown pushes Steel Penn up against the cage in a clinch. Steel Penn is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Crown pulls him back up using the underhooks. Steel Penn has Crown pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Crown manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for The Steel Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Crown tries to stall but Steel Penn uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Steel Penn is looking for a takedown. Steel Penn has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Crown avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Steel Penn wants a takedown but no success here.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Steel Penn here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. That's one minute gone in the round. Crown lands a nice elbow. Crown drops Steel Penn with a big knee straight up the middle! Steel Penn is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
Steel Penn is rocked! Crown closes the distance looking for a takedown. Crown picks Steel Penn up and slams him brutally to the floor. Steel Penn is out! He's out cold! Wow, you don't see a finish like that every day!
