Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Arturo Atunes! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Coaker Kluge! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kluge works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Kluge has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Kluge scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
It looks like Arturo Atunes has been cut. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Kluge!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kluge on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Kluge jabbing away but nothing is landing. Atunes chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kluge rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Atunes counters with an outside leg kick.
Atunes tries a low kick but Kluge avoids it. Kluge throws a hook but Atunes avoids it easily. Kluge takes a kick to the side of the head. Kluge misses with a straight right. Kluge connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Atunes feints and then cracks Kluge's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kluge down. Kluge throws a left and a right that both miss
and Atunes counters with a flying knee that drops Kluge! Atunes tries to free his leg and advance position but Kluge is retaining full guard. Kluge wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kluge throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Atunes lands a couple of decent looking shots. Kluge is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Atunes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kluge wants to improve his position but instead Atunes has moved into half guard.
Atunes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Kluge wants to improve his position but Atunes is controlling well.
Atunes uses his free foot to push down on Kluge's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kluge. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Atunes landing shots from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Kluge that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Atunes unloading with bombs! Atunes prevents Kluge from getting the reversal. Atunes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Atunes unloading with bombs! Kluge is trying to escape the mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kluge is squirming around, avoiding Atunes's attempts to control the action. Kluge manages to regain half guard. Good work. Kluge is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Atunes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Atunes's back! Atunes trying to control the position but Kluge manages to sink in the hooks. Kluge trying to control momentarily.
Atunes tries to roll but Kluge sticks to his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kluge really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Atunes. Kluge not allowing Atunes to control his hands. Atunes is keeping busy.
Atunes rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Kluge wants to stand up but Atunes is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Arturo Atunes dominated that round. The cut man is working on Arturo Atunes's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Nice defenses there by Atunes. Atunes fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kluge has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. A left lands for Kluge. Coaker Kluge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kluge fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kluge misses with a lunging right hand
and Atunes counters with a good low kick that Kluge was not able to check. Atunes blocks a jab. Atunes connects with a solid leg kick. Both fighters circling a little - Atunes finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kluge misses with a hook
and Atunes counters with a leg kick. Kluge takes a kick to the side of the head. Atunes thows a body kick. Kluge tries to catch it but that hurt him. Kluge throws a looping overhand right but Atunes ducks down to avoid it. Kluge is breathing heavily. Atunes lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Kluge on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Atunes scores with the left hand. Kluge knows he should have avoided that one. Kluge walks straight into a right hand from Atunes - that's dropped him! Atunes jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Kluge from any more punishment! Kluge complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Arturo Atunes! Arturo Atunes retains his middleweight title! Post fight, Arturo Atunes took to the microphone: 'Miller is great champion, he was my best opponent yet.'.
