Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Blas Kavcic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hugh Janus! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Janus looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Janus tries to clinch and Kavcic counters with a nice double leg into side control. Janus won't be happy with that. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Janus is not content to let Kavcic control the position. Janus is pushing Kavcic's head away, looking to escape. Kavcic manages to hold on to the position though. Kavcic tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kavcic has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Janus is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Kavcic tries for a kimura but Janus is defending well. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Janus can do anything to dispel that myth. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kavcic tries for a kimura but Janus is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kavcic misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Janus tries to escape but Kavcic is in control. Kavcic has knee on belly and moves into mount. Kavcic won't let Janus get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Kavcic throwing strikes but Janus recovers to half guard. A much better position. Kavcic passes to full mount! Kavcic wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Kavcic content just to control the position here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kavcic with shots to the head and body - Janus looks very uncomfortable down there. Janus defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kavcic. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Janus is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Kavcic looking to control but Janus is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Kavcic takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Kavcic is looking to control Janus but Janus is wriggling around and keeping busy. Kavcic scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Janus is looking for a way out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kavcic is looking for the choke from the back position but Janus is controlling his hands well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kavcic is looking to control Janus but Janus is wriggling around and keeping busy. Janus has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Kavcic looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Janus taps!
