Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Santa Claus! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Pierce! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pierce connects with a crisp jab.
It looks like Santa Claus has been cut. Claus tries to keep at a distance but Pierce has taken the fight into the clinch. Pierce gets underhooks to prevent Claus's takedown attempt.
Claus prevents a body shot from Pierce. Claus is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Pierce to keep the fight standing. Claus is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pierce pulls him back up using the underhooks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santa Claus. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pierce breaks from the clinch.
Pierce's coach down at Meanor MMA™ was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Pierce's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Claus shoots and misses and Pierce cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Claus fails to land the takedown. Pierce dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Claus. That did some damage! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pierce tries to close the distance and clinch but Claus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Claus shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pierce is trying to defend but Claus finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Claus is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pierce is just riding it out for now. Claus eventually gives up the hold. Pierce trying to hold on to Claus's head to control him but Claus postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Claus trying to control the action but Pierce is working from the bottom. Claus wants to pass to mount but Pierce is defending the position. Pierce trying to control from the bottom.
Claus definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Claus seems to be working for a kimura but Pierce defends the submission attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pierce wants to get back to full guard. Claus is trying to work for a kimura but Pierce is defending well.
Claus is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Claus passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Claus moves to back control. Pierce tries to escape but Claus has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Pierce trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Claus has the hooks in. Pierce is starting to panic. He's trying to push off one of the legs but he's left his neck open to attack. Claus passes his arm under Pierce's neck and tightens up a rear naked choke! This one is surely all over! Yes, Pierce taps!
