PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Engelbreckt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Engelbreckt comes into a darkened arena with his song building. If I had a heart kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexander Engelbreckt!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Engelbreckt or perhaps it was just good defense by Briggs which made him look bad.

Briggs shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Engelbreckt is trying to defend but Briggs finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Briggs perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Engelbreckt is trying to get back to full guard.
Briggs takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Briggs is thwarting Engelbreckt's attempts to control the position.
Briggs tries to pass the half guard into mount. Engelbreckt knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Engelbreckt on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Briggs is trying to control the action in half guard but Engelbreckt is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Briggs closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Briggs lands in his opponent's guard.

Briggs throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Engelbreckt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Engelbreckt wants to sweep but no luck.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Engelbreckt is pulling down on Briggs's head. It's preventing any offense from Briggs, at least for the moment.
Briggs wants to pass the guard but Engelbreckt is keeping the position.

Engelbreckt postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Briggs is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Engelbreckt, into his guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Engelbreckt fails to land the takedown.
Engelbreckt dives in and grabs Briggs's left leg, looking for a takedown. Briggs pushes down on Engelbreckt's head and hops out.
Nick Briggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Engelbreckt.

and Engelbreckt counters with a one-two to the body.
Engelbreckt takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Engelbreckt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Briggs pinned against the cage. Briggs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Briggs shoots for a double leg takedown but Engelbreckt sprawls well. He's pushed Briggs's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Briggs controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Nick Briggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Briggs slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Briggs is staying tight to Engelbreckt's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Engelbreckt is looking to regain half guard here but Briggs keeps moving and retains side control.

Briggs works to advance to full mount. Engelbreckt defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Briggs fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Engelbreckt to the ground. Briggs is now in Engelbreckt's guard.

Briggs is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Briggs shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Engelbreckt but Engelbreckt pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Briggs manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Engelbreckt on his heels. He'll look to pass Engelbreckt's guard now, I'm sure.

Briggs seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Engelbreckt for as long as he can get away with.

Well Briggs has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
