PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Corey Bond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anu Chandran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Corey Bond has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Corey Bond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Anu Chandran!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chandran clinches with his opponent.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Bond tries to break the clinch but Chandran is controlling the position.
Bond wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Chandran lands a takedown into guard.
Bond working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Chandran.
Chandran postures up.
Chandran content to stall in guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chandran keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bond's head.

Chandran's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Anu Chandran hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Chandran closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Chandran tries to stand but Bond is controlling his head.
Sloppy strikes there by Chandran.
Bond tries to improve position but can't.
Chandran tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Chandran lands an elbow.
Chandran should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Chandran wants to stand but Bond is controlling his arm.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chandran goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bond has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Chandran but great work by Bond.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chandran holds on to Bond's head and controls the position momentarily.
Chandran is trying to buck Bond off.

Chandran is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bond's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Chandran looks like he's trying to stand up.

Bond is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chandran doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bond.

Chandran moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Chandran working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bond doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bond manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Chandran lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bond!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Anu Chandran dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Chandran shoots in and bounces Bond off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chandran seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Chandran uses his free foot to push down on Bond's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bond.

Bond is in a horrible position here. Chandran smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Anu Chandran has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bond knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chandran on the ground.

Chandran looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Chandran with shots to the head and body - Bond looks very uncomfortable down there.


It looks like Corey Bond has been cut.

Bond reaches up to try and control the position but Chandran seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Bond rolls and tries to escape and now Chandran has his back!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chandran keeps control of the position easily here as Bond tries to buck him off.

Chandran looking to break Bond's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Bond remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Chandran will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Bond defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bond in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anu Chandran showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Chandran moves into the clinch successfully.
Chandran keeps control of Bond as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Bond wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Chandran wants the takedown. Bond is fighting it off but Chandran persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Bond's guard against the cage.
Chandran is fighting to break Bond's control of his arms but Bond is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Chandran's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bond trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Anu Chandran was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Chandran throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Chandran falls off balance throwing a combination
and Bond counters with a head kick. That will keep Chandran thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Bond struggling a bit here.

Chandran tries for a kimura but Bond is defending well.
Chandran lands an elbow.

Chandran swings around for an armbar but Bond sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Chandran's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chandran has his foot on Bond's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bond works his way back into a safe position though.
Bond wants to stand and escape but instead Chandran has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Bond will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chandran passes Bond's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chandran working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Bond is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chandran takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Chandran cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Oh Bond is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chandran content just to control the position here.
Corey Bond has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Anu Chandran is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bond seems to have got his legs back now.

Anu Chandran comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chandran has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
