Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Todd Poole! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roy Tunney! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Poole circles away from the clinch attempt and Poole counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tunney won't be happy with that. Tunney can't do much from the bottom here. Poole throws a strike aimed at the side of Tunney's head but Tunney avoids it well. Poole working the ground and pound but Tunney is defending the strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The ground and pound from Poole seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Tunney pushes Poole away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Poole gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tunney tries to get back to half guard but can't. Tunney is trying to buck Poole off. Tunney looks winded! Tunney dodges the ground and pound from Poole. Poole stands up and we're back to a striking position. Tunney shoots in for a takedown but Poole shows good takedown defense. Poole swats away the attempt to clinch by Tunney.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Poole fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tunney avoids it really well and circles away. Tunney fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Tunney with a lazy takedown attempt and Poole holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Todd Poole has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Tunney. Poole escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tunney shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Poole tries to get to full guard but Tunney has control of the leg.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Poole regains full guard. Nicely done. Poole is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Poole is trying to control the position but Tunney postures up. Poole is pulling down on Tunney's head. It's preventing any offense from Tunney, at least for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Poole lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tunney! Tunney is desperately trying to improve his position but Poole has a good base and remains in mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poole looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Tunney throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Poole punching from mount but Tunney doing a good job of avoiding damage. Poor strikes thrown by Poole there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Poole will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tunney is wriggling around trying to escape.

Todd Poole dominated that round. The cut man is working on Todd Poole's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Poole throws a right and a left that both miss. Tunney closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Poole is pushing Tunney's head away, looking to escape. Tunney manages to hold on to the position though. Poole is trying to improve his position. Poole tries to strike but it doesn't land. Poole holds on to Tunney's head and controls the position momentarily. Poole is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Tunney seems to be working for a kimura but Poole defends the submission attempt. Tunney is breathing heavily. Poole is trying to stand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tunney decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Poole throws a nice inside leg kick. Tunney bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Poole is trying to control Tunney's posture but Tunney avoids it. Poole is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tunney landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Tunney controlling from side mount. Tunney works to advance to full mount. Poole defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Tunney wants to finish this one by submission but Poole is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Tunney. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tunney tries to control but Poole wriggling away. Poole tries to hold on but Tunney pushes him away. We've been informed that Tunney has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Poole is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tunney is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Poole really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Tunney landing strikes, looking to finish! Poole tries to lock up and control but Tunney gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Tunney content just to control the position here. Tunney avoids the attempt from Poole to control.

Poole is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Tunney looking for a guillotine from mount but Poole is having none of it. Poole tries to hold on but Tunney postures up. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tunney controlling his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roy Tunney showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Todd Poole's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Poole looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Tunney! Poole sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Tunney is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Tunney looks to move to half guard but instead Poole has passed into mount! Damn! Tunney takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. The referee warns Tunney that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tunney holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Poole tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Tunney is in all sorts of trouble here.
A nice elbow there by Poole. Poole lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Tunney tries to hold on but Poole pushes him away. Poole unloads with some shots from mount but Tunney bucks and avoids them well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Poole looking to ground and pound but Tunney is blocking nicely. Tunney is looking to get to half guard. Todd Poole overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Poole postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Tunney looks a forlorn figure.

Poole wants to control the pace but Tunney is squirming around nicely. Tunney tries to lock up and control but Poole gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poole prevents Tunney from getting the reversal. Poole lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
