Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, William Pearson!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Payne gets caught napping as Pearson dives in and scores a takedown. Payne manages to retain guard.
Payne wants to get back to his feet but Pearson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Pearson trying to control but Payne is working from the bottom.
Pearson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by William Pearson.

Pearson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Payne could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Pearson is pressing down on Payne's thigh, looking to free his foot. Payne is holding on for now.
Payne is looking to improve his position.

Pearson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Payne to get to his feet.
Payne moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

and Pearson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pearson.

Pearson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Payne uses from the top position.

Pearson pushes Payne off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Pearson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Payne paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Payne throws a right and a left that Pearson avoids nicely.

Pearson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Payne to the mat! Payne manages to get full guard.
Payne wants to sweep but no luck.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pearson forces his way into half guard.
Payne is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Pearson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Payne throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pearson feints a jab promting Payne to slip. Pearson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Payne slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Vince Payne has been cut.
A thudding body kick lands there by Pearson!

Pearson gets the takedown into side control.
Payne is not content to let Pearson control the position.
William Pearson has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Payne sneaks back into half guard.
Pearson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Payne is not content to let Pearson control the position.

Pearson decides to stand back up. Pearson steps back and let's Payne get back to his feet.

Pearson tries to move to mount but Payne blocks the move with his legs.

Pearson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Payne has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Pearson but great work by Payne.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Payne creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Pearson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Pearson throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

William Pearson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Payne rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pearson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Pearson is looking to clinch but Payne is avoiding it.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Pearson. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Payne is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Payne throws a right hand that Pearson ducks under and follows up with a left that Pearson also avoids with ease.
Pearson moves in looking to clinch but Payne pushes him off.
William Pearson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pearson drives through with a takedown into Payne's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Pearson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Payne throws an elbow that misses. Pearson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Payne's guard. Nice move by Pearson!

Well Pearson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
