Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aster Roid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roid's entrance music is Awesome God. A fine choice. Velasquez has chosen Kryptonite as his entrance music. Aster Roid had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roid uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Velasquez.
Roid misses with a few strikes there.
Roid cracks the inside of Velasquez's front leg.
Velasquez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Roid is trying to defend but Velasquez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Velasquez looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Roid is looking to control Velasquez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Roid avoid being mounted?

Velasquez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Roid haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Velasquez working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roid swivels though and keeps the full guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Velasquez looking to score a takedown here. Roid is defending well but Velasquez drives through and ends up in Roid's guard.
Roid has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aster Roid has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Velasquez avoids the body shot from Roid.
Roid leaves Velasquez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Velasquez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Roid sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Velasquez somewhat.
Aster Roid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Velasquez.

Roid is looking to improve his position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Velasquez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Roid is looking for a sweep. Velasquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Velasquez is keen to just control but Roid is a slippery customer.
Velasquez seems to be working for a kimura but Roid defends the submission attempt.
Roid kicks Velasquez off and gets back to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Velasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Roid which made him look bad.
Aster Roid is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Velasquez smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Roid is rocked!
Roid backs away from a small jab... but Velasquez lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Roid crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Velasquez with a spectacular finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Cain Velasquez!
During a confident post fight interview, Cain Velasquez thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Aster Roid had this to say: 'Thank you Jesus!! I will get better!!'.
