PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Blow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Myles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blow comes to the cage accompanied by Slippin. The crowd seem to be enjoying Myles's choice of entrance music: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Blow!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darren Myles!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Myles missing with a left hand there. Blow was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Myles throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Blow.
Nice sprawl there from Myles as Blow shoots in.
Blow lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Blow tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Myles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A shot to the body from Myles misses

and Blow counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Myles is pressed up against the cage. Blow has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Myles down to the mat. Myles avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
We've been hearing reports that Blow has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Myles throws a right and a left that Blow avoids nicely.
A telegraphed right hand from Myles misses the target.
No joy there for Myles, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Myles lands a left and a right that send Blow crashing to the mat, dazed. Myles thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Mike Blow has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Blow lands an overhand right.
Myles falls off balance throwing a combination

and Blow counters by clinching up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Blow tightens his grip and picks Myles up, before dumping him to the ground. Myles manages to land in guard.
Our spies down at at Men of Mayhem (1 TPL, 6 DBL, 5 SGL)(55 member cap) inform us that Myles has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Blow throwing strikes from guard but Myles blocks nicely.
Blow missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Blow trying to control the position from guard on top but Myles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blow prevents Myles from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blow with a flurry of punches that miss.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Myles can do anything to dispel that myth.
Blow stops Myles from standing up.
Myles really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blow. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Myles keeping moving, preventing Blow from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mike Blow just wasn't active enough.
Myles lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Blow circles away quickly and effectively.
Darren Myles is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Myles tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Blow was well out of range. Poor timing from Myles.
Myles throws a right hand that misses

and Blow counters by clinching up.
Blow lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Darren Myles has been cut.

Blow has clasped his hands together around Myles's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blow tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Blow in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Blow is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Myles looks calm but he's in trouble here. Blow gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Myles is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Blow lets go of the hold and Myles can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mike Blow!
Mike Blow retains his lightweight title!
Mike Blow decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
