PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Huey Bright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Huey Bright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eddy Hicks!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hicks is looking to clinch but Bright is avoiding it.

Hicks shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hicks was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hicks tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Bright really is a fat lump.
Bright is trying to escape the position but Hicks is controlling the position.
Bright tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hicks wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hicks tries to stand but Bright is controlling his head.

Hicks is trying to get an arm triangle but Bright is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bright struggling a bit here.
Bright is looking for a sweep.
Hicks trying to control the position but Bright is working away.
Hicks tries to stand but Bright is controlling his head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bright wants to control but Hicks postures up.
Hicks trying to control the action but Bright is working from the bottom.
Hicks controls the position.

Eddy Hicks has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
A chopping leg kick lands by Hicks.

Hicks drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hicks throws an elbow but Bright slips to the side and avoids it well.
Bright regains half guard, as Hicks was trying to land strikes.
Hicks is looking to take a break and control but Bright is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bright tries to roll over but Hicks keeps him under control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Hicks is looking to pass Bright's guard but actually Bright recovers to full guard.
Hicks is looking to stand up but Bright won't let him.
Bright can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hicks controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy Hicks dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hicks tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bright manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Hicks scores with a takedown into Bright's guard.
Hicks wants to control from the top but Bright keeps moving.

Eddy Hicks has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hicks lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bright circles away quickly and effectively.
Hicks tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bright paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hicks tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Bright gets caught flat footed, as Hicks shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Hicks drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bright manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hicks has Bright in his guard.
Hicks is breathing heavily.
Bright trying to control the position from guard on top but Hicks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hicks utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hicks is trying to keep Bright in close.
Eddy Hicks has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bright trying to control the position from guard on top but Hicks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hicks is working an open guard so Bright takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Hicks throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bright tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hicks is in Bright's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bright is pulling down on Hicks's head. It's preventing any offense from Hicks, at least for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bright is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hicks shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bright's guard.
Hicks wants to control from the top but Bright keeps moving.
Hicks looking to sit in guard and control but Bright gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bright trying to control but Hicks is working from the bottom.
Bright stands up over Hicks, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Bright stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Hicks throws a head kick that misses.
Bright fails with an attempt to clinch.
Good work by Bright as he checks the leg kick.

Bright gets caught flat footed, as Hicks shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bright is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bright might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bright has control of Hicks's left arm, preventing Hicks from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy Hicks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Bright looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hicks pushes Bright off looking to stand but Bright dives back in and keeps control.
Hicks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hicks wants to improve his position but Bright is controlling well.
Bright trying to control the pace.
Bright working Hicks over with strikes.

Bright decides to return to a standing position.
Bright avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hicks takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hicks gets a takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hicks trying to control from Bright's half guard. Bright has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Hicks postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bright is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hicks, into his guard.

Bright stands up and waves to Hicks to follow him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bright is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hicks's half guard.
Hicks is trying to get back to full guard.
Bright looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hicks with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Bright lands strikes from half guard.
Bright content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Hicks is not content to let Bright control the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bright landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Bright is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Hicks throws a head kick but Bright moves out of range.

Hicks drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Bright is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hicks off and has taken his back!

Hicks defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Bright's arms.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bright scores with strikes from the back.
Hicks trying to control but not successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bright is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bright is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Hicks won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Bright off his unconscious opponent!
