Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenichi Shirahama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Speed comes to the cage accompanied by Amon Tobin / El Cargo. Shirahama has chosen Fade To Black as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be a great matchup!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Speed connects with a solid leg kick. Daniel Speed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Speed throws a quick inside leg kick. Shirahama moves out of range of the body kick from Speed.
Speed will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Speed displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shirahama. A clash of legs there as Shirahama blocks the low kick. Speed throws a nice head kick!

Shirahama is looking to work some ground and pound but Speed has wrist control. Shirahama loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Speed preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Shirahama looking to sit in guard and control but Speed gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Speed preventing the sweep.

Speed advances position into side control! Shirahama regains half guard there - taking advantage of Speed's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Shirahama is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Speed's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Speed's back! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Shirahama is trying to control but Speed is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shirahama is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Speed can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shirahama controls the pace. We've been hearing good reports from Speed's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Shirahama has Speed pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Speed manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Shirahama tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Speed stops Shirahama from passing to mount. Shirahama throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Shirahama throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Speed works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Speed is not content to let Shirahama control the position.

Speed is trying to maintain the position but Shirahama is very close to passing his half guard. Shirahama tries to pass to full mount but Speed defends it. Speed is trying to control but can't.
