PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stan Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marsh is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pettis scores with a takedown into Marsh's guard.
Marsh is breathing heavily.

Marsh is working an open guard so Pettis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Marsh avoids a punch combination nicely.
Marsh takes a jab right on the kisser.
Marsh blocks a head kick by Pettis.
Pettis misses with a head kick.
Marsh shoots in and drives through. Pettis sprawls well.
Horrible takedown by Pettis or perhaps it was just good defense by Marsh which made him look bad.

Pettis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Marsh's guard.

Marsh tries to clinch there but Pettis circles away.
Pettis shoots in for a double leg but Marsh sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Marsh fails with a takedown attempt.
We've been informed that Pettis has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Marsh sprawls well. Marsh wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pettis gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Marsh looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pettis shoots in but no luck this time.
Marsh avoids the head kick by Pettis.
Stan Marsh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pettis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pettis wants it to stay on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Marsh shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pettis's guard.
Pettis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marsh controls the pace.

Pettis keeping moving, preventing Marsh from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Stan Marsh wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Pettis clinches with his opponent.
Pettis throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Marsh misses with a knee strike.

Pettis jumps guard.
Anthony Pettis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pettis has control of Marsh's left arm, preventing Marsh from doing any damage.
Pettis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Marsh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pettis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pettis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marsh was covering up waiting for the punch and Pettis finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Marsh has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pettis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Marsh looking for subs off his back but Pettis has passed one foot through into half guard.
Pettis perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pettis stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Marsh to get to his feet.
Marsh dives in for a single leg takedown but Pettis sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stan Marsh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pettis tries to throw a body punch but Marsh avoids it by throwing Pettis back against the cage.
Pettis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Marsh walks away with a smile on his face. Pettis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pettis misses with a head kick.
Marsh fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Pettis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Marsh closes the distance and clinches up with Pettis, looking for a takedown. Marsh pushes Pettis against the cage but Pettis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Marsh misses with a head kick.
Pettis throws a sloppy head kick and Marsh moves out of range easily.
Pettis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Marsh fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Pettis is out of range.
Pettis misses with a head kick.

Pettis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marsh's half guard.
Well, if Pettis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Pettis has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Marsh is trying to escape the mount.
Marsh takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Pettis controlling from the full mount.

Marsh is looking to improve his position but Pettis isn't that keen on the idea.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marsh tries to lock up and control but Pettis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pettis is landing with some decent strikes but Marsh is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Marsh is in a horrible position here. Pettis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Anthony Pettis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pettis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
