PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Long Mejia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladmir Kozlof (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Long Mejia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vladmir Kozlof!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kozlof tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mejia tries to clinch but Kozlof moves out of range.
Kozlof throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kozlof throws a right and a left that Mejia avoids nicely.
Kozlof just misses with a punch to the body.
Kozlof looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kozlof throws a quick inside leg kick.
Vladmir Kozlof seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kozlof, right into the meat.
Mejia is breathing heavily.
Kozlof tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Mejia counters with a right hand to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kozlof tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mejia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mejia tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Kozlof wants to clinch up but Mejia keeps it at a distance.
Kozlof lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mejia circles away quickly and effectively.
Kozlof tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mejia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mejia could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A head kick misses from Kozlof.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kozlof dives in and scores a takedown into Mejia's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kozlof trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Kozlof must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mejia looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kozlof with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mejia utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mejia avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kozlof prevents Mejia from getting back to his feet.

Kozlof drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kozlof jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mejia has a closed guard, preventing Kozlof from standing up.
Kozlof working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mejia tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kozlof has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mejia is proving hard to escape from.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mejia looking for subs off his back but Kozlof has passed one foot through into half guard.
Kozlof thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mejia's head.
Mejia wants to get back to full guard.

Kozlof is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mejia is just riding it out for now. Kozlof eventually gives up the hold.
Kozlof throwing shots but Mejia is blocking nicely.
Kozlof really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mejia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kozlof tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mejia knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mejia looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kozlof thows a huge punch but Mejia dodges it nicely.

Kozlof is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kozlof throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kozlof tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mejia controls his leg.
Kozlof wants to pass to mount but Mejia is defending the position.
Kozlof thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mejia's head.
Mejia trying to control but Kozlof postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kozlof throwing shots but Mejia is blocking nicely.
Mejia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kozlof missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vladmir Kozlof dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kozlof scores with the left hand. Mejia knows he should have avoided that one.


It looks like Long Mejia has been cut.
Mejia takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Mejia avoids the head kick by Kozlof.
Kozlof misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kozlof throws an overhand right that has Mejia reeling! Kozlof follows up with more punches and Mejia is out cold! This one is all over!
