Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Hunt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 48 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mountain Rivera! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rivera. Hunt scores with a leg kick.
Hunt tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rivera paws at him with a jab and circles away. Rivera tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hunt defends well and Rivera ends up having to push Hunt into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Hunt misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Rivera.
Hunt tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rivera smiles and moves away.
Hunt tries to clinch but Rivera is having none of it. Hunt fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Rivera drives through and clinches with Hunt against the cage.
Hunt drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Hunt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rivera stops a takedown attempt from Hunt.
Rivera is defending well against a takedown attempt. Hunt wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rivera misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hunt.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hunt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivera lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rivera is figuring out what he wants to do next. Hunt pushes Rivera off looking to stand but Rivera dives back in and keeps control.
Hunt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Hunt keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Hunt is defending against the submission attempts here by Rivera.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hunt works his way to full guard. Good work. Hunt wants to stand and escape but Rivera is having none of it. Rivera sitting in guard, not really doing much. Rivera in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Rivera controls the pace of the fight for a moment. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rivera wants to control from the top but Hunt keeps moving. Rivera controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mountain Rivera. Rivera swats away the attempt to clinch by Hunt. Hunt closes the distance but Rivera moves to the side and Rivera counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rivera. Hunt is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Hunt jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rivera walks away with a smile on his face. Hunt gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rivera throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hunt tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rivera is in Hunt's guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Rivera won't allow Hunt to get back to his feet. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rivera accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rivera controlling from the top position. Rivera has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Hunt keeping moving, preventing Rivera from controlling successfully. Rivera throwing strikes from guard but Hunt blocks nicely. Hunt is looking to stand up but Rivera isn't so interested in that idea. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Rivera is working Hunt over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Rivera throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rivera avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rivera engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Rivera postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rivera stays in close to Hunt's body and controls the position. Rivera is looking to work some ground and pound but Hunt has wrist control. Rivera loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hunt is looking to stand up but Rivera isn't so interested in that idea. Rivera got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hunt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rivera has managed to get both his arms back between Hunt's legs - danger averted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mountain Rivera dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Rivera uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hunt. Rivera shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Hunt takes the fight into the clinch. Good body shot from Hunt.

Hunt lands a right hand that snaps the head of Rivera backwards. Hunt tries to throw a body punch but Rivera avoids it by throwing Hunt back against the cage. Hunt has hold of one of Rivera's legs. Rivera is fighting the takedown attempt but Hunt gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Hunt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rivera manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hunt has Rivera in his guard. Hunt is looking to stand up but Rivera isn't so interested in that idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivera with a flurry of punches that miss. Rivera trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Hunt looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rivera trying to control but Hunt is working from the bottom. Hunt is trying to keep Rivera in close.
Rivera is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Rivera stands up over Hunt, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Rivera not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Rivera throws an elbow that misses. Hunt uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rivera's guard. Nice move by Hunt! Rivera is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hunt is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivera bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hunt's guard. Hunt pushes a forearm under Rivera's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rivera is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
