PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Delmer Reeves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dom Nik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Delmer Reeves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dom Nik!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Reeves has managed to clinch.
Nik throws a knee to the head but misses.
Nik jumps guard but Reeves stands there with Nik around his waist. Nik gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Nik is trying to pull guard but Reeves turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Reeves breaks the clinch.
Nik fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Delmer Reeves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Nik.

Reeves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Nik regains half guard, as Reeves was trying to land strikes.

Reeves sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Nik defending well though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nik regains full guard. Nicely done.
Reeves is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reeves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Reeves trying to control but Nik is working from the bottom.

Nik has his foot on Reeves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reeves works his way back into a safe position though.
Nik has momentary wrist control but Reeves slips an elbow through the middle.
Reeves throws a big elbow that misses.
Reeves wants to control from the top but Nik keeps moving.
Reeves with a flurry of punches that miss.
Reeves trying to control but Nik is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reeves keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Nik's head.
Nik keeping moving, preventing Reeves from controlling successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reeves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reeves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Reeves has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Delmer Reeves just wasn't active enough.

Reeves gets a takedown into half guard.

Reeves throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Reeves lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Reeves tries to stand but can't do so whilst Nik controls his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nik moves into full guard.

Nik has his foot on Reeves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reeves works his way back into a safe position though.

Reeves wants to control from the top but Nik keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reeves sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Nik is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Delmer Reeves dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Reeves lands a jab to Nik's midsection.
Nik shoots and misses

so Reeves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Reeves chips away with some ground and pound.

Nik isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Reeves stacks Nik on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Reeves!
Nik is breathing heavily.
Reeves is looking to take a break and control but Nik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reeves throws an elbow but Nik slips to the side and avoids it well.
Nik managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Reeves.

Reeves is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nik has escaped the position, nice work there.
Nik tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Reeves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Reeves goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Nik has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Reeves but great work by Nik.
Nik sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Reeves is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Nik advances to full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reeves regains half guard.
Nik content to control rather than advance.

Nik looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Delmer Reeves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nik tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reeves knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reeves throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Nik not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Nik passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Reeves!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nik controlling from mount.
Reeves tries to lock up and control but Nik gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Reeves prevents any damage by holding on tight.
Reeves is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Delmer Reeves dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nik moves to clinch but Reeves breaks away
and Reeves counters with a series of strikes. Nik will be more careful next time no doubt.
No luck for Nik with that takedown attempt.
Reeves stuffs the takedown attempt from Nik. Nik gets slowly back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Reeves closes the distance and pushes Nik back into the cage.

Reeves jumps guard.
Nik seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nik advances position into side control!
Nik fails to land a wild elbow strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reeves is looking for a sweep.
Reeves can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nik trying to control the position but Reeves is working away.
Reeves wants to control but Nik postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee asks Nik politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nik prefers to stall for the moment though.
Reeves gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Nik is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Reeves is not content to let Nik control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nik changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reeves looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reeves is not content to let Nik control the position.
Reeves is looking for a sweep.
Reeves trying his best to control but Nik has mounted him.
Nik is landing with some decent strikes but Reeves is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Dom Nik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Delmer Reeves is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Reeves is trying to escape the mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dom Nik comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Reeves has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
