Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Emelianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Dux! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Hemmingworth and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Emelianenko tries for a takedown but Dux circles away easily and Dux counters with a nice double leg into guard. Emelianenko working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dux doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dux manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Dux wanted to stand there but Emelianenko had control of the position. Dux must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Emelianenko not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dux wants to stand but Emelianenko has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Emelianenko is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Dux wants to get up but he can't break Emelianenko's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Emelianenko ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Emelianenko moves away from the strike by Dux. Dux throws a shot from downtown. Emelianenko moves away and avoids it. Emelianenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dux's waist but Dux gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Emelianenko off to one side. Emelianenko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dux is fending him off so far but Emelianenko persists. Nope, Dux circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexander Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him. Emelianenko with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Dux to score with a decent uppercut. Emelianenko dives in for a single leg takedown but Dux sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Dux manages to break the clinch.
Frank Dux seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A big right from Dux misses. Emelianenko with a poor takedown and Dux counters with a single leg into guard. Emelianenko didn't expect that. Dux would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Dux looks winded! Dux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko pushes a forearm under Dux's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Dux is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
