Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Shilo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ralek Gracie - GINAGI (G-IN-A-GI). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Craig Shilo! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shilo sprawls well. Shilo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet. Shilo scores with a hook. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Thomas. Thomas goes for a double leg but Shilo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Shilo continues to drive forward. Thomas definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thomas tries for a takedown. No joy.
Shilo pushes Thomas back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. A left hand lands to the body for Shilo.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Shilo. Shilo lands a body shot in the clinch.
Shilo stops a takedown attempt from Thomas.
Nice body punch from Shilo - that landed with a thud.
Shilo prevents a takedown attempt there.
A left hand lands to the body for Shilo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shilo gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Thomas.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas looking for a takedown. A quick uppercut on the inside from Shilo. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Shilo. Thomas drops down looking for an ankle pick but Shilo pulls his leg out and moves away.
Left hook, right uppercut from Shilo. Thomas takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Shilo lands with a good body shot. Nice uppercut lands for Shilo. That snapped Thomas's head back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Shilo gets caught flat footed, as Thomas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Thomas is breathing heavily. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Thomas throws a strike but Shilo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Shilo looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas can't keep his opponent in guard - Shilo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Shilo passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Thomas! Thomas is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shilo tries to control but Thomas wriggling away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas trying desperately to get to his feet.
Thomas is working to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thomas is working hard here to advance position. Thomas wants to control but Shilo is having none of it. Shilo controlling the pace for now. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Thomas really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Thomas tries to hold on but Shilo postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Craig Shilo dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
An inside leg kick lands from Shilo. Thomas has a takedown stuffed. Thomas needs to keep his hands up - Shilo had a free shot at his head there. Shilo scores with a nice head shot. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shilo. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Shilo scores with a jab to the body. Shilo connects with a crisp jab. Shilo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Craig Shilo seems to be getting the better of the standup. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Shilo catches Thomas with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Shilo lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shilo as he jumps to the side. Thomas shoots in looking for a takedown. Shilo tries to sprawl out of it but Thomas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shilo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas tries for a takedown but Shilo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Shilo lands a slapping body shot.
Shilo stuffs the takedown attempt from Thomas. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet. Shilo fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Shilo jabs at Thomas's body. Shilo scores with a hook to the body. Thomas takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Shilo dips to his left and cracks Thomas with an uppercut! Shilo jabs Thomas right on the nose. Thomas blinks but takes it well. Shilo stuns Thomas with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Thomas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Shilo has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Thomas is landing a low percentage of strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Thomas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Thomas has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Shilo. Thomas doesn't succeed with the takedown and Shilo counters with a series of strikes. Thomas will be more careful next time no doubt. Thomas takes a shot right to the bread basket. Shilo lands a big head kick that sends Thomas tumbling to the mat! Shilo takes a step backwards and waves Thomas back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Thomas is rocked! Shilo lands a left and a right that send Thomas crashing to the mat, dazed. Shilo thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! Oh Thomas is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Shilo fakes the body blow, causing Thomas to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Thomas goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
