PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tobias Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tobias Battle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell misses with a body kick.
Mitchell shoots in but Battle avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mitchell lands a body shot.

Mitchell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Battle can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mitchell controls the pace.
Battle throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Battle working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mitchell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mitchell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mitchell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Battle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Max Mitchell hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Mitchell is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Battle pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mitchell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Battle is proving hard to escape from.
Mitchell postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Battle working a defensive guard but Mitchell manages to pass into side control anyway.
Battle is pushing Mitchell's head away, looking to escape. Mitchell manages to hold on to the position though.
Battle is not content to let Mitchell control the position.

A close round but Max Mitchell will probably get the nod.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Battle.

Mitchell is breathing heavily.
Mitchell changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Mitchell shoots in and gets a takedown into Battle's guard.
Mitchell wants to get up but he can't break Battle's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Battle thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Battle manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Battle ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Battle no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Battle looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Battle has his foot on Mitchell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mitchell works his way back into a safe position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Battle looks for a takedown but Mitchell sprawls well.

Battle feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Battle tries to pull guard but Mitchell holds him up against the cage and eventually Battle drops back down to his feet.

Battle kicks Mitchell off and gets back to his feet.
Mitchell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Battle circles away quickly and effectively.

Battle has closed the distance and engaged Mitchell in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Battle jumps guard and drags Mitchell to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Tobias Battle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Battle throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.

Mitchell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Battle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mitchell has managed to get both his arms back between Battle's legs - danger averted.

And that's the end of the fight!
