PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Renato Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ion Diacon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Renato Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ion Diacon!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diacon has his takedown stuffed
and Cannon counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Diacon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Diacon scores with a decent looking hook.
Diacon fails with the takedown
and Cannon counters with a head kick. That will keep Diacon thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Diacon has his takedown stuffed

and Cannon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Diacon's guard.
Renato Cannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ion Diacon.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Diacon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cannon is one step ahead there.
Diacon wants to improve his position but instead Cannon has moved into half guard.

Cannon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Diacon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cannon.
Cannon is looking to take a break and control but Diacon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cannon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cannon is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Diacon defends it well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Cannon is working for a submission of some sort.
Cannon trying to control from Diacon's half guard. Diacon has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Diacon looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Cannon has picked Diacon up and slammed him! Diacon can't keep hold of the triangle and Cannon manages to pass to side control!

Cannon wants to control but Diacon is keeping him busy.
Diacon wants to control but Cannon postures up.
Diacon is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cannon is controlling him well.
Diacon is looking to regain half guard here but Cannon keeps moving and retains side control.
Diacon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Diacon trying to hold on to Cannon's head to control him but Cannon postures up.

Cannon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diacon is just riding it out for now. Cannon eventually gives up the hold.
Diacon is pressing down on Cannon's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Renato Cannon will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice takedown defense from Cannon. No joy for Diacon on that attempt.

Cannon throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Diacon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Cannon is trying to pull guard but Diacon turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Cannon jumps into guard, dragging Diacon to the mat.
Diacon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cannon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Diacon is controlling him.

Diacon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Diacon looking to sit in guard and control but Cannon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cannon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Diacon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Cannon off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Diacon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Diacon throws a wild body kick that Cannon sees coming a mile off.
Cannon looks for a takedown but Diacon sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renato Cannon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fight stays on the outside here - Diacon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Diacon tries to clinch but Cannon moves away
and Cannon finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Diacon closes the distance and clinches.

Cannon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Diacon shoots in for a takedown but Cannon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Diacon shoots in but Cannon avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Diacon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cannon defends it nicely.
Diacon is breathing heavily.
Diacon throws a nice looking combination but Cannon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Diacon clinches up with Cannon and pushes him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diacon tries a knee to the head but Cannon blocks it.

Cannon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cannon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Diacon as he jumps to the side.
Cannon avoids the head kick by Diacon.
Cannon misses with a double jab
and Diacon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cannon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diacon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Diacon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Diacon wants it to stay on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ion Diacon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Diacon tries to land a front kick but Cannon steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Diacon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Diacon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Diacon shoots in for a double leg but Cannon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Diacon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cannon as he avoids it easily.
Renato Cannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ion Diacon.

Cannon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Diacon did well to prevent Cannon getting side control.
Diacon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cannon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cannon's back!
A lull in the action here.
Cannon tries to escape the position.
Diacon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Diacon gets his hands free as Cannon looks to control.
Cannon staying busy and making it hard for Diacon to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cannon can't escape the position.

Diacon looking for the choke but no joy.
Diacon keeps control of the position as Cannon tries to break free.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diacon thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Cannon avoids the strikes from Diacon.

Cannon is having to fend off submission attempts from Diacon, who is looking to sink in the choke. Diacon doesn't have the hooks in though and Cannon manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Cannon throwing strikes from guard but Diacon blocks nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diacon wants to stand but Cannon is controlling the position.
Diacon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cannon.
Diacon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cannon is one step ahead there.
Cannon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Diacon seems keen to control Cannon's posture.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ion Diacon.
Well Diacon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Ion Diacon rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
