Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Richard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Columbus Steiner! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steiner shoots in for a double leg but Richard sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Steiner takes one on the button. Richard defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Steiner. Matt Richard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Columbus Steiner. Richard slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Steiner dives in and grabs Richard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Richard pushes down on Steiner's head and hops out. Richard throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Steiner's head. This has been an exciting period of action! Richard misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Richard throws a series of punches but Steiner moves out of range. Steiner tries to clinch and Richard counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Richard. Steiner tries for a takedown but Richard manages to get underhooks.
Richard breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Richard circles away from the clinch attempt.
A punch combination from Richard misses. Steiner is looking to clinch. Steiner looks for a takedown but Richard sprawls well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Richard will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Richard throws a jab but it's blocked by Steiner. Richard throws a head kick but Steiner moves out of range.
A punch lands to the side of Steiner 's head but he takes it in his stride. Steiner fails in his attempt to clinch. Steiner shoots in for a takedown but Richard shows good takedown defense. Richard tries to land a front kick but Steiner steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Richard shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Steiner being controlled here, momentarily. Richard's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Richard lands a couple of digs. Richard looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Richard working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Richard controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Richard scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Steiner wants to control but Richard passes easily into half guard.
Richard winds up and cracks Steiner with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Richard performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Richard connects with a nice short shot to Steiner's temple. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Richard lands a nice short elbow. Steiner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Richard seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Richard frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Richard sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. We've been informed that Steiner has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Richard lands a big elbow. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Richard is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Richard!
