PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Majstor Zivota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Quartz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Majstor Zivota has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Majstor Zivota seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Majstor Zivota!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Benny Quartz!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quartz misses with a jab, cross combination.

Quartz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Zivota, pushing him back against the cage.
Quartz is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Quartz misses with a shot to the kidneys.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Quartz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Zivota working aggressively here.
Quartz is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Quartz wants to break free but Zivota has control.

Quartz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Quartz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Zivota feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Zivota won't allow Quartz to get back to his feet.
Quartz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Zivota is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Majstor Zivota has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Zivota feints and as Quartz raises his hands in defense, Zivota changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zivota passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Zivota slows the pace down.
Zivota works to advance to full mount. Quartz defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Zivota has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Quartz can do anything to dispel that myth.

Zivota mounts Quartz! Really nice guard pass there!

Zivota seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Quartz for as long as he can get away with.

Quartz really wants to buck Zivota off and get back to his feet.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Zivota has isolated one of Quartz's arms. Quartz looking to fight him off but Zivota twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Majstor Zivota!
A determined Majstor Zivota didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
