Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mingo Deems (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Untaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Untaka is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze. On his way into the cage it seems that Mingo Deems has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mingo Deems seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mingo Deems! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Untaka! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A cross from Deems lands. Deems lands with a nice combination. Untaka backs away looking to recover.
It looks like Thomas Untaka has been cut. Untaka defending well as Deems loads up on a big left hand. Untaka goes for a double leg but Deems avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Deems continues to drive forward. Untaka can't get the takedown.
Untaka is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Deems pulls him back up using the underhooks. Mingo Deems has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Untaka. Untaka has Deems pressed against the cage, preventing Deems from circling away and getting back to striking at range. I was talking to Deems's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Deems is trying to force a seperation but Untaka has the dominant position. Deems breaks the clinch.
Deems lands an overhand right. Untaka scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. This has been an exciting period of action! Untaka throwing shots but missing, from side control. Untaka tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Untaka has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's one minute gone in the round. Untaka goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Deems rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Untaka's guard! Nice work there by Deems! Untaka tries to land a sweep but no joy. Deems wants to control from the top but Untaka keeps moving. Deems has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Untaka wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Deems is now in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Deems perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Untaka manages to get to full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Deems trying to control the position from guard on top but Untaka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Mingo Deems wasn't doing enough on the ground. Deems fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Untaka checks it well. Deems cracks Untaka with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Untaka will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Deems cracks Untaka with a right hand to the side of the head. Mingo Deems seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Deems fails to land with a series of punches.
Deems lands with a hook. Untaka tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Untaka is rocked! Untaka get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Untaka stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Deems runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mingo Deems! An out of breath Mingo Deems thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
