PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wallace McCoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCoy comes to the cage accompanied by Stone Temple Pilots - Dead and Bloated. Jay Jones will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wallace McCoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCoy slips a jab and a cross from Jones.

McCoy closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jones did well to prevent McCoy getting side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McCoy misses with a head shot. Jones uses the momentum to regain guard.
McCoy throws a big elbow that misses.

Jones pushes McCoy off and gets back to his feet.
McCoy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

McCoy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jones napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Jones is pushing McCoy's head away, looking to escape. McCoy manages to hold on to the position though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones parries the strikes from McCoy easily there. McCoy is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jones to escape.
Jones regains half guard, as McCoy was trying to land strikes.
McCoy is nestled in close to Jones, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
McCoy looks to land a strike but Jones avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones wants to stand and escape but McCoy is having none of it.
Jones keeping moving, preventing McCoy from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCoy is fighting to break Jones's control of his arms but Jones is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
McCoy postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McCoy throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
McCoy looking to control.
McCoy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Jones tries to stand but McCoy is controlling from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCoy keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

McCoy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
McCoy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McCoy is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.
Jones pushes McCoy off looking to stand but McCoy dives back in and keeps control.
Jones wants to control but McCoy is keeping busy.
Jones is trying to defend against the ground and pound but McCoy scores with a couple of nice shots.
Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McCoy is working away from the top position though.
McCoy throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Jones to regain full guard.
McCoy looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
McCoy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones pushing down on McCoy's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
McCoy tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.
Jones throwing shots but McCoy is blocking nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones trying to pass the guard but McCoy defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McCoy is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Wallace McCoy will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


McCoy is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jones.
McCoy looks to score with a jab to the body but Jones is just out of range.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
McCoy tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Jones blocking some punches.
Jones working hard to break the clinch.
Jones tries to break free but McCoy pushes him back against the cage.
McCoy's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
McCoy tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
McCoy keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jones blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McCoy gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Come on McCoy - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

McCoy is trying to trip Jones. He has hold of a leg but Jones is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. McCoy persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
McCoy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.
McCoy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones wants to control from the top but McCoy keeps moving.
McCoy preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McCoy keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.
McCoy wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.
Jones lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones works his foot free and advances to mount.
Jones misses with a head shot.
Jones with shots to the head and body - McCoy looks very uncomfortable down there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCoy wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
Jones working the ground and pound effectively.
McCoy can't escape the position.
McCoy tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

It looks like Wallace McCoy has been cut.
Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of McCoy's face.


McCoy is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones cracks McCoy with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jay Jones!
A relieved looking Jay Jones thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
