Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gianfranco Zola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maci Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maci Jones has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gianfranco Zola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maci Jones!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zola throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.

Zola darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Zola escapes and gets back to his feet.

Zola shoots in and gets a takedown into Jones's guard.
Jones looks winded!
Zola wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Zola wants to stand but Jones is controlling his posture from full guard.

Zola controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Zola trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

We're going to have a standup here because Gianfranco Zola wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Zola throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.
Zola needs to keep his hands up - Jones had a free shot at his head there.

Zola gets caught napping as Jones dives in and scores a takedown. Zola manages to retain guard.

Zola controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.
Zola preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Zola could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jones is fighting to break Zola's control of his arms but Zola is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Zola looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Zola has wrist control.
Zola is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Zola escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jones lands a couple of digs.
Zola bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.
Zola content to stall in guard here.

Zola is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!

Zola is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Zola not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Zola wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jones's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zola tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Zola has a closed guard, preventing Jones from standing up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Zola throws a lazy right hand but Jones sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gianfranco Zola is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Zola shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The crowd cheers as Jones lands an impressive looking overhand right. Zola doesn't seem phased though.
Maci Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zola ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Zola doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Zola clinches.

Zola pulls Jones into guard.
Zola pulls Jones in to control the position.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones wants to stand but Zola is controlling his posture from full guard.

Zola kicks Jones off and gets to his feet.

Zola lands a head kick!
Jones tries to bum rush Zola with a series of wild strikes but Zola uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Zola shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jones napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Zola is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Zola works to advance to full mount. Jones defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Zola working for a submission but Jones is keeping him at bay.
Zola is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zola controlling the pace for now.

Zola breaks from Jones's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zola wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.
Zola lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Zola swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Jones is now in Zola's guard. A big mistake from Zola there, giving up the dominant position!

Jones content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Zola is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Zola throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Zola is figuring out what he wants to do next.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

Zola scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Zola wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.

Zola looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Zola is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Jones trying to remain calm as Zola controls from the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Gianfranco Zola.

Zola clinches up against the cage.

Zola lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Zola winds up and cracks Jones with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zola is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Zola keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Zola works his way into full mount!
Gianfranco Zola overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Zola looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Zola takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Zola has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Zola cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Jones's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Zola tries to control but Jones wriggling away.
Zola mounts Jones! Really nice guard pass there!
Jones is squirming around, avoiding Zola's attempts to control the action.
Maci Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gianfranco Zola is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Zola lands with some strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gianfranco Zola showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Zola, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
