Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenny Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mason Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kenny Smith!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Marshall keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Marshall ducks under a wild hook from Smith.
Smith misses with a takedown

and Marshall counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smith's guard now.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Marshall controlling from the top position.

Smith working for a triangle but Marshall defends it easily.

Smith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
Marshall tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.
Smith wants to hit a switch here but Marshall passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Smith there!

Marshall avoids the attempt from Smith to control.
Marshall takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mason Marshall.
A looping hook to the body misses from Smith. Marshall does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
Marshall uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Smith tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marshall was well out of range. Poor timing from Smith.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Marshall's guard.

Marshall manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Marshall lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.


It looks like Kenny Smith has been cut.
Marshall is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Smith gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Marshall has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Smith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Marshall has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Smith after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mason Marshall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marshall drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Marshall is looking to take this one to the mat.

Smith trying to control the position but instead, Marshall has worked for underhooks and has pushed Smith into the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Smith.

Marshall works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Marshall controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Smith has his foot on Marshall's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Marshall works his way back into a safe position though.
Smith can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marshall controls the pace.
Smith is pulling down on Marshall's head. It's preventing any offense from Marshall, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mason Marshall.
Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Marshall sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Marshall wants a takedown but no success here.
Smith drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Marshall gets the underhooks and prevents it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mason Marshall will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Kenny Smith's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Smith swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Marshall as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Marshall counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Smith doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Smith isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Marshall stacks Smith on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Marshall!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is trying to escape the position but Marshall is controlling the position.
Smith sneaks back into half guard.

Smith looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Marshall takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Marshall frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Smith tries to reverse the position but Marshall maintains control.
Smith wants to control but Marshall is having none of it.
Marshall sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marshall seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smith for as long as he can get away with.

Marshall looking to secure an arm triangle but Smith defends it well.
Marshall controlling from mount.

Smith is working to get back to half guard.
Marshall tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kenny Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marshall prevents Smith from getting the reversal.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Marshall showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Marshall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
