PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dakota Weston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reginaldo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dakota Weston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Reginaldo Silva!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva lands a nice looking kick to the body. Weston takes a step back to recover.
Weston moves to clinch but Silva breaks away
and Silva counters with a nice uppercut.
Sloppy strikes from Weston. Those never looked like landing.
Weston tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Silva counters with a stiff right hand.
Silva takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Weston misses with a double jab
and Silva makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Weston decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Weston not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Silva keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Weston throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Weston is thwarting Silva's attempts to control the position.
Silva is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Weston tries to stand but can't do so whilst Silva controls his leg.
Weston looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Weston wants to work for an arm triangle but Silva is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Silva is staying active underneath Weston, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Weston has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Silva works to full guard.
Silva is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Weston accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Silva fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Weston.

Silva moves into range and clinches up with Weston.
Weston's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Weston has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Silva tightens his grip and picks Weston up, before dumping him to the ground. Weston manages to land in guard.
Silva prevents Weston from getting back to his feet.

We've been hearing good reports from Weston's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Weston wants to get back to his feet but Silva is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Silva makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Silva cracks Weston with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Weston tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Silva manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Weston holds on to Silva's head and controls the position momentarily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weston is not content to let Silva control the position.

Weston defending against the ground and pound.
Weston is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Silva asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Silva throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Weston regains half guard, as Silva was trying to land strikes.
Weston wants to get back to his feet.
Silva seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Weston does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Silva is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Reginaldo Silva.
Weston fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Silva avoids it really well and circles away.
Weston connects with a looping right hand.
Weston goes for a double leg but Silva avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Silva continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dakota Weston. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Reginaldo Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Weston shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Weston showed some decent athleticism there.

Weston seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silva does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Weston has gone for a leg lock! Silva slips out almost immediately though and dives into Weston's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Reginaldo Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Reginaldo Silva decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
