PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Esko Takanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dexter Redshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Takanen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Tell A Bitch. Redshaw has chosen ACDC - Skies on Fire as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 22 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Esko Takanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 3, fighting out of Helsinki, Dexter Redshaw!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takanen fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Redshaw has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Dexter Redshaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Redshaw tests Takanen's chin there with a solid looking shot.
We've been told by Takanen's head coaches at Green Line that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Redshaw fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Takanen sprawls well initially but Redshaw persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Takanen preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Redshaw thows a huge punch but Takanen dodges it nicely.
Takanen wants to control but Redshaw is keeping busy.
Takanen is trying to stand up here but Redshaw is controlling him well.
Takanen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Redshaw is pressing down on Takanen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Takanen is holding on for now.
Takanen has hold of Redshaw's hands but Redshaw slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are battling for position here. Takanen manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Redshaw postures up and lands a big shot to Takanen's brow.
Redshaw works over Takanen with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takanen has his hands on Redshaw's head, controlling the position.
Redshaw makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Redshaw content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takanen wants to sweep but no luck.
Takanen keeping moving, preventing Redshaw from controlling successfully.

Takanen is pulling down on Redshaw's head. It's preventing any offense from Redshaw, at least for the moment.

Redshaw trying to control but Takanen is working from the bottom.
Redshaw throwing strikes but missing.
Redshaw stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takanen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Takanen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Redshaw darts in looking for a takedown but Takanen gets double underhooks and turns Redshaw into the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takanen stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Redshaw is trying to drag Takanen to the mat but Takanen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Redshaw drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Esko Takanen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dexter Redshaw.
Redshaw landing knees to the head.
Redshaw trying to stall but Takanen improves his position.
Takanen lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Redshaw is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Takanen gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Redshaw misses with a short punch on the inside.
Takanen content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Takanen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Takanen stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Takanen wants it to stay on the feet.
Takanen throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Esko Takanen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Redshaw buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Redshaw fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takanen lands a jab to the nose.
Redshaw connects with a good right hand that stumbles Takanen. Takanen circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Redshaw tries to land a leg kick but Takanen saw it coming and moves away.
Redshaw's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Takanen connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Redshaw scrambles back to his feet.


Redshaw is rocked!
Redshaw takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Redshaw is still on wobbly legs! Can Takanen finish him?
Takanen drops Redshaw with a big left hand! Redshaw is injured, injured bad! Takanen jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Esko Takanen!
Esko Takanen seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
