Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Heishiro Mitsurugi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, William Johnson! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mitsurugi on his heels. He'll look to pass Mitsurugi's guard now, I'm sure. Johnson passes Mitsurugi's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Johnson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Johnson fails to land the takedown. Mitsurugi is looking to take this fight into the clinch. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson. Mitsurugi leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Heishiro Mitsurugi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Johnson. Mitsurugi throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Johnson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
This has been an exciting period of action! Mitsurugi stuffs the takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet. Mitsurugi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Johnson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mitsurugi quickly recovers to half guard. Johnson controlling the pace. Johnson uses his free foot to push down on Mitsurugi's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mitsurugi.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mitsurugi is looking to get to half guard. My spies in BadBoy Club inform me that Johnson has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Johnson controlling from the full mount. Johnson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Mitsurugi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mitsurugi swivels and escapes. Mitsurugi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson. Mitsurugi lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Mitsurugi lands with a kick to the temple. Johnson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mitsurugi avoids it really well and circles away. William Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson scores with a takedown into Mitsurugi's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Johnson gets to his feet. Mitsurugi looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Johnson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mitsurugi defends well and Johnson ends up having to push Mitsurugi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Mitsurugi lands an elbow just above Johnson 's eye. Mitsurugi is pressed up against the cage. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mitsurugi down to the mat. Mitsurugi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Mitsurugi feints and then cracks Johnson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Johnson down. Johnson shoots in but Mitsurugi avoids the takedown attempt easily. Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mitsurugi swivels and escapes. Mitsurugi throws a leg kick which misses Johnson's front leg but catches the back leg as Johnson tries to avoid it. Mitsurugi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Nice takedown defense from Mitsurugi. No joy for Johnson on that attempt. No luck with that takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson looks winded!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mitsurugi tries to clinch there but Johnson circles away.

Mitsurugi tries to land knees in the clinch but Johnson avoids the damage to the body. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Mitsurugi lands an elbow inside that Johnson shrugs off. Mitsurugi goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That was a close round but I would say that Heishiro Mitsurugi will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Johnson dives in and grabs Mitsurugi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mitsurugi pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out. Johnson is breathing heavily. Johnson shoots and misses and Mitsurugi counters with a nice kick to the body. Mitsurugi takes the fight into the clinch. Johnson takes a knee to the side of the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mitsurugi lands a good knee to the midsection. Johnson won't want to take too many of those. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mitsurugi putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Johnson in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Johnson takes a knee to the side of the body. Mitsurugi scores a nice knee to the body.
Mitsurugi is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Johnson is keeping busy. Mitsurugi utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. Mitsurugi unloads a knee to the mid-section. Mitsurugi controlling the action here for a moment.

Johnson prevents a body shot from Mitsurugi. Johnson is looking to control Mitsurugi's arms but Mitsurugi gets an underhook and turns him. Now Johnson has his back to the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Mitsurugi gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Johnson.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Mitsurugi. Mitsurugi slowing the pace effectively. Mitsurugi comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Mitsurugi creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Johnson's defenses. Mitsurugi can't find room to land a body shot as Johnson controls the action.

Johnson is still on wobbly legs! Can Mitsurugi finish him? Clinched against the cage, Mitsurugi lands a big elbow that drops Johnson! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - Johnson is complaining that he's OK but he was done.
