Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alonzo William (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xico Marreco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alonzo William!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Xico Marreco!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Darius Henderson and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marreco pushes William up against the cage in a clinch.

William is trying to trip Marreco. He has hold of a leg but Marreco is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. William persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
William really is a fat lump.
Marreco preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Marreco is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. William is aware though and is defending well.
Marreco is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

William is not content to let Marreco control the position.
Marreco content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Marreco is trying to control. William wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

William is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Xico Marreco hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Marreco shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in William's guard.
Marreco trying to control the position from guard on top but William is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marreco controls from within his opponent's guard.
Let's hope that Marreco has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Xico Marreco was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Marreco closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Marreco lands in his opponent's guard.

Marreco wants to control from the top but William keeps moving.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Marreco shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
William might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

William wants to control but Marreco is keeping busy.
Marreco prevents William from improving his position.
William gets back to full guard.
Marreco trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but William manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Marreco looking for a sweep. Not yet Marreco, not yet.
William stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marreco swivels though and keeps the full guard.
William missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Marreco utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Marreco throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. William was covering up waiting for the punch and Marreco finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Marreco wants to pass to mount but William is defending the position.

Marreco is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. William doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Marreco.
William has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marreco is working away from the top position though.
William is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
William tries to get to full guard but Marreco has control of the leg.

Marreco wants to control but William is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Marreco shoots in and bounces William off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Marreco controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Marreco wants to control from the top but William keeps moving.

William is controlling Marreco's posture.
Marreco scoring with some ground and pound.

Marreco stands up and waves to William to follow him.

Marreco has William up against the cage in a clinch.

Marreco gets control of William's arms and successfully pulls guard. Marreco will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
William throwing strikes but missing.

William trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
William is fighting to break Marreco's control of his arms but Marreco is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
William throws a strike but Marreco rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marreco has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of William is proving hard to escape from.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xico Marreco showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Marreco takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Marreco shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Marreco was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Marreco wants to lay and pray for a moment but William keeps working.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Xico Marreco hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marreco throws a nice outside leg kick.
William bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Marreco throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. William tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Marreco is in William's guard.
Marreco takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
William wants to sweep here but Marreco controlling him for the moment.
William not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Marreco wants to pass the guard but William is keeping the position.
William bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marreco's guard.
Marreco striking off his back but it's not causing William any problems.

Marreco is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and William defends well.
Marreco looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
William postures up and lands a big shot to Marreco's brow.
William postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Marreco wants to hit a switch here but William passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Marreco there!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Marreco is in all sorts of trouble here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Marreco is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Alonzo William has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Xico Marreco is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

William has hold of Marreco's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Marreco manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xico Marreco comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Marreco has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
