PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dillon Raymond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Batterij Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batterij Hunter told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dillon Raymond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Batterij Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raymond throws a right and a left that Hunter avoids nicely.
Hunter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hunter has Raymond up against the cage in a clinch.

Hunter has clasped his hands together around Raymond's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hunter just content to control the position.
Raymond really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Raymond can't do much from the bottom here.
Raymond sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hunter moves into range and clinches up with Raymond.
Hunter wants a takedown but no success here.
Hunter is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Raymond is keeping busy.
Raymond tries to land a knee to the head but Hunter blocks with his arms.
Raymond throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hunter blocks it with crossed arms.

Hunter jumps guard but Raymond turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Dillon Raymond has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Batterij Hunter.
Raymond using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Hunter has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Hunter manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hunter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Raymond doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Raymond manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

We're going to have a standup here because Dillon Raymond wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Raymond tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Hunter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Raymond sprawls well initially but Hunter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Raymond wants to improve his position but Hunter is controlling well.
Hunter stops Raymond from getting back to his feet.
Hunter should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Batterij Hunter was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Raymond wants to clinch

and Hunter counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Raymond!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Raymond is looking to regain half guard here but Hunter keeps moving and retains side control.
Hunter controls the position from side control.
Hunter has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Raymond!

Hunter fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Batterij Hunter dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Raymond looks to clinch

and Hunter counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Raymond tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hunter is trying to force a seperation but Raymond has the dominant position.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Hunter wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hunter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hunter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Raymond avoids it really well and circles away.
Raymond closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hunter circles away.

and Hunter counters by moving into the clinch.
Hunter missing with knees to the body.
Hunter is looking to control Raymond's arms but Raymond gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hunter has his back to the cage.

Hunter tries to break the clinch but Raymond is controlling the position.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Hunter pulls guard successfully.
Raymond wants to control from the top but Hunter keeps moving.

Raymond is looking to stand up but Hunter won't let him.
Batterij Hunter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Raymond trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hunter is looking to stand up but Raymond isn't so interested in that idea.

Hunter tries to land a front kick but Raymond steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Batterij Hunter has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hunter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Raymond defends it nicely.
Hunter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hunter wants to clinch up but Raymond keeps it at a distance.

and Raymond counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hunter's guard now.
Dillon Raymond has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Batterij Hunter.

Raymond trying to control but Hunter is working from the bottom.
Hunter trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Raymond knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunter on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Raymond will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Raymond slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Batterij Hunter will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Hunter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Raymond is looking to stand up but Hunter won't let him.
Raymond has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hunter is pulling down on Raymond's head to control his posture.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Batterij Hunter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Raymond tightens his grip and picks Hunter up, before dumping him to the ground. Hunter manages to land in guard.

Hunter thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hunter is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Raymond knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Raymond takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Raymond is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hunter asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Raymond gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Hunter lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Hunter has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Raymond defend it? Hunter steps over the head and cranks it - Raymond is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hunter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Batterij Hunter!
