Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Olaf Backstrom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kamil Gadzhiev!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gadzhiev fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Backstrom throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gadzhiev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Backstrom keeping moving, preventing Gadzhiev from controlling successfully.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gadzhiev is on top in guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Olaf Backstrom wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Gadzhiev misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Backstrom here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Backstrom jumps guard and drags Gadzhiev to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Gadzhiev is not content to let Backstrom control the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Backstrom tries to free his leg and advance position but Gadzhiev is retaining full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Olaf Backstrom will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Backstrom shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gadzhiev blocks a jab.
Backstrom pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Backstrom misses with a hook. Gadzhiev ducked under it nicely.
Backstrom closes the distance and clinches up with Gadzhiev, looking for a takedown. Backstrom pushes Gadzhiev against the cage but Gadzhiev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gadzhiev fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gadzhiev fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Backstrom avoids it really well and circles away.
Gadzhiev will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Gadzhiev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Backstrom darts in looking for a takedown but Gadzhiev gets double underhooks and turns Backstrom into the cage.

Backstrom escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gadzhiev dives in for a single leg takedown but Backstrom sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Backstrom is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gadzhiev!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Backstrom wants to control the pace but Gadzhiev is squirming around nicely.
Gadzhiev should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Backstrom has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gadzhiev's face.
Backstrom tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
