Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Guss Steel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Reed Williams! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steel jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Williams blocks a jab. Williams pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Steel throws a body punch but Williams moves out of range. Steel blocks a low kick nicely. Steel has been working on his boxing with his coaches at GoldStar Elite in the buildup to the fight. Steel lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Steel fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Williams slips under a jab. A big right from Steel misses. Good leg kick by Williams there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Williams displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Steel. Steel misses with a low kick as Williams jumps back. Steel blocks a head kick by Williams.
Williams stuffs the takedown attempt from Steel. Steel gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Guss Steel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Williams tries a head kick but it misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Steel pushing down on Williams's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Steel looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Steel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Williams can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Steel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Steel tries to get out of the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Williams got a little sloppy there for a moment and Steel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Williams has managed to get both his arms back between Steel's legs - danger averted. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Williams avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Williams has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Steel is proving hard to escape from. Williams tries to avoid it but Steel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Steel cracks Williams with a right hand to the side of the head. Williams fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Steel looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Williams pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Steel looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Williams is fending him off so far but Steel persists. Nope, Williams circles away and we're back to standing. Williams scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Williams misses with an attempted mid kick.
Williams looks to land a body kick but Steel moved away. Williams clinches. Steel is trying to pull guard but Williams turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Guss Steel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. This has been an exciting period of action! Williams manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round. Williams looks to score with a jab to the body but Steel is just out of range. Steel looks to throw the jab but Williams is out of range. Steel takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Steel shoots in looking for a takedown but Williams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Steel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Steel here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Steel avoids a kick to the body.
Williams lands with a nice body kick. Steel has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Williams. Williams misses with a body kick. Williams slips under a jab. Williams is looking to slow Steel down with leg kicks. Williams connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Williams stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Williams wants it to stay on the feet. That kick from Williams tenderised Steel's leg. Steel is trying to keep his angry face on. Reed Williams seems to be getting the better of the standup. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Williams throws a nice inside leg kick.

Steel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. That's one minute gone in the round. A leg kick checked by Steel. Williams ducks under a wild hook from Steel. Williams misses with a low kick as Steel jumps back. Steel is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Williams tries a head kick but it misses.
Steel tries for a takedown but Williams sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Guss Steel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Williams throws a half hearted mid kick. A nice leg kick lands there from Williams. Steel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Williams moves away. Williams lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Steel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Williams manages to avoid it. Steel misses with a hook. Williams ducked under it nicely. A momentary lapse in concentration from Williams enables Steel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Williams manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Steel thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Steel looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Steel won't allow Williams to pass to mount. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Williams tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Steel is trying to stand up here but Williams is controlling him well. Steel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Williams pulls his head out easily. Steel tries to get to full guard but Williams has control of the leg.

Williams trying to control the pace. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Williams working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Steel is looking to improve his position.
