Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Christ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Huss! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Christ changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Huss tries to avoid it but Christ manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Huss to the ground. Huss escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Christ fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Christ shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Huss but Huss pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Christ. That's going to take a lot out of him. Huss has taken the fight to the clinch.
Huss is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Christ is trying to drag Huss to the mat but Huss just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Nice body punch from Huss - that landed with a thud.
Huss's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Christ is trying hard to land a takedown here. Huss sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Christ shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Huss napping and manages to drive through into side control! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Christ has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Huss is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Christ yanks on the arm and Huss is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Christ.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). George Christ! A relieved looking George Christ thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. In defeat, Chris Huss stepped up to the mic, saying 'We both fought well but in the end I didn't do enough'.
