Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Tamayo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Paul! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No joy there for Tamayo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Paul takes a swing at Tamayo's ribcage but misses. Tamayo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Paul moves out of range of the body kick. Tamayo throws a chopping leg kick but Paul manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Paul swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Paul slips a jab and a cross from Tamayo.
Tamayo tries a head kick but it misses.
An inside leg kick from Paul misses. No luck for Paul with that takedown attempt. Tamayo lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Tamayo throws a series of strikes that have Paul backpedaling.
Tamayo throws a right hand that Paul ducks under and follows up with a left that Paul also avoids with ease. Tamayo checks a leg kick nicely. Tamayo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Paul's head. Tamayo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Tamayo fails to land with a series of punches.
A combination from Tamayo does no damage. Paul throws a chopping leg kick but Tamayo manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Paul fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Tamayo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Tamayo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Paul. Paul fails miserably with a takedown attempt. George Tamayo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Paul. Tamayo lands a nice hook to Paul's body. Paul takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tamayo works over Paul's head and body with a nice combination. A right-left combo lands from Tamayo. Paul looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Tamayo is breathing heavily. Paul won't allow Tamayo to get back to his feet. Paul drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Paul jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Tamayo wants to stand and escape but Paul is having none of it. Paul advances position into side control! Tamayo tries to escape but Paul is in control. Tamayo gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Tamayo wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Tamayo is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Paul locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Tamayo is forced to tap!
