Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Monte Hobbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dub Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hobbs enables Schmidt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hobbs manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Schmidt sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Hobbs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Schmidt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Schmidt throws a big elbow that misses.
Hobbs is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Schmidt throws a big right hand that misses.
Schmidt pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hobbs is keeping the position for now.
Hobbs is controlling Schmidt's posture.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hobbs tries to bum rush Schmidt with a series of wild strikes but Schmidt uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hobbs scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hobbs misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Schmidt tries to buck Hobbs off but Hobbs is having none of it.
Schmidt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Schmidt avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hobbs.
Hobbs gets to mount! Schmidt was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Hobbs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Schmidt on the ground.
Schmidt wants to hold on but Hobbs pushes him away.
Hobbs misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Schmidt has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Hobbs's lack of action.
Schmidt moves into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hobbs is posturing up here but Schmidt has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Hobbs tries to roll out but it's too tight and Hobbs has to tap! Slick submission there by Schmidt!
