Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hector Hernandez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chael Heavy!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hernandez tries to clinch up but Heavy circles away and keeps his distance.
Heavy has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Hernandez is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Heavy dives in for a single leg takedown but Hernandez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A knee to the head by Hernandez.
It looks like Chael Heavy has been cut.
Heavy takes an elbow to the temple.
Hernandez throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Heavy blocks it with crossed arms.
Heavy tries to pull guard but Hernandez won't allow it.
Hernandez gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Hernandez lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
That has opened up Chael Heavy's cut even more.
Heavy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hernandez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Hector Hernandez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chael Heavy.
Hernandez scores with a nice hook to the head.
The cut above Chael Heavy's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Heavy tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hernandez smiles and moves away.
Heavy has closed the distance and engaged Hernandez in a clinch.
Heavy tries to pull guard but Hernandez won't allow it.
Heavy on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Heavy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hernandez lands with a short shot to the head.
Heavy is trying to pull guard but Hernandez turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Hernandez lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Chael Heavy's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Hernandez creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Heavy with a big uppercut! Heavy tries to clinch up but Hernandez pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Heavy to the mat! Heavy covers up and Hernandez unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Hector Hernandez!
