Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Preston Mckay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nate SJ! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Mckay looks like he's thinking about clinching though. SJ misses with the combination.
SJ drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. SJ preventing the sweep. Mckay keeping moving, preventing SJ from controlling successfully. Mckay looking for a guillotine here but SJ defends easily.
Mckay looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
SJ postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mckay has a closed guard, preventing SJ from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. SJ passes Mckay's right leg, so he's now in half guard. SJ gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Mckay really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. SJ tries to clinch but fails miserably and Mckay counters with a right hand to the body. Mckay fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but SJ avoids it really well and circles away. Mckay gets caught flat footed, as SJ shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Mckay is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. SJ is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. SJ trying to control the position from guard on top but Mckay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. SJ wants to stand but Mckay has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Mckay pulls SJ in close to prevent any damage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Nate SJ wasn't active enough on the ground. SJ pulls out of a head kick attempt.
SJ darts in trying to clinch and Mckay counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mckay.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mckay tries for a takedown. No joy.
Mckay manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Mckay looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
SJ pushes down on Mckay's leg and manages to get into half guard. Mckay is trying to maintain the position but SJ is very close to passing his half guard. Mckay wants to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. SJ is looking to advance position but Mckay won't allow it. SJ wants to take a breather but Mckay is having none of it. SJ perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mckay wants to get back to full guard. Mckay is not content to let SJ control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Nate SJ. SJ drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mckay prevents SJ from moving into mount. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! SJ lands an elbow. SJ working away. Mckay tries to get back to half guard but can't. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. SJ creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mckay sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Mckay is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but SJ is one step ahead and moves to full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nate SJ dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
SJ clinches up against the cage. SJ turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and SJ manages to end up in side control. SJ is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mckay has escaped the position, nice work there. Mckay sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Mckay preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. SJ is keen to just control but Mckay is a slippery customer. Mckay wants to control but SJ is keeping busy.
SJ tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mckay. Mckay is trying to maintain the position but SJ is very close to passing his half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. SJ fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mckay sprawls well initially but SJ persists and gets the takedown into half guard. SJ trying to control the action but Mckay is working from the bottom. Mckay trying to control but SJ postures up.
Mckay gets back to full guard.
SJ with a flurry of punches that miss. Mckay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. SJ postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's two minutes gone in the round. SJ seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mckay manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. SJ manages to get himself to full guard.
SJ controls Mckay momentarily but Mckay frees himself. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nate SJ has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. SJ throws a head kick that misses. Nate SJ seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. SJ closes the distance looking to clinch and Mckay counters with a nice kick to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. SJ shoots in and bounces Mckay off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mckay throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Mckay is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. SJ is aware though and is defending well. Mckay keeping moving, preventing SJ from controlling successfully. SJ landing some decent shots from guard. Mckay looking to hit a scissor sweep but SJ is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. SJ looking to pass the guard. Mckay looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. SJ avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Mckay wants to stand up but SJ is controlling him. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mckay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. SJ gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. SJ not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nate SJ showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mckay tries to get to full guard but SJ has control of the leg. Mckay makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mckay. Nate SJ has got the better of the ground game so far. SJ not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's one minute gone in the round. SJ stands up and waves to Mckay to follow him. SJ shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. SJ stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mckay swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mckay has his foot on SJ's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. SJ works his way back into a safe position though. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mckay wants to control but SJ passes easily into half guard.
Mckay is looking to improve his position.
Mckay trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mckay's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. SJ connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Mckay is squirming around, avoiding SJ's attempts to control the action. SJ is in the full mount, landing strikes. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. SJ unloading with bombs! Mckay tries to hold on but SJ pushes him away. SJ wants to control the pace but Mckay is squirming around nicely. SJ stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. SJ closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mckay's guard.
Mckay is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mckay looking for subs off his back but SJ has passed one foot through into half guard.
Mckay trying to get back to full guard but SJ takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! SJ is landing with some decent strikes but Mckay is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Oh Mckay is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! SJ controlling from the full mount. Mckay has given up his back here.
SJ is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Mckay has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but SJ has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Mckay taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. SJ doesn't care though - he's delighted!
