PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raleigh Britt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raleigh Britt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Edwards!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Edwards shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Britt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Edwards is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Britt knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sloppy strikes there by Edwards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edwards wants to control but Britt is keeping him busy.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Edwards should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Edwards wants to lay and pray for a moment but Britt keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
An elbow from Edwards crashes against the mat.
Edwards has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Edwards remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The ref stands the fighters back up. James Edwards was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Edwards throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Britt tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Edwards is in Britt's guard.
Edwards trying to control the position from guard on top but Britt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Edwards is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Edwards wants to pass the guard but Britt is keeping the position.

Edwards is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Britt looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Britt keeping moving, preventing Edwards from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Edwards throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Britt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Edwards stands up and waves to Britt to follow him.

Edwards changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Britt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Edwards moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Edwards tries to stand but Britt is controlling his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Britt is trying to control Edwards's posture but Edwards avoids it.
Edwards looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Britt is avoiding damage well.
Edwards is looking to take a break and control but Britt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Edwards is trying to ground and pound but Britt uses the momentary lack of control by Edwards to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Edwards dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Edwards shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Britt manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Edwards slips nicely into half guard.
Edwards moves into full mount! Britt won't be happy about that!
Edwards unloads with some shots from mount but Britt bucks and avoids them well.
Edwards thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edwards controlling the pace for now.
Edwards can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Britt is looking to escape.
Edwards thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Edwards looking to control but Britt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Edwards is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Edwards extends the arm and Britt is forced to tap!
