Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jim Wimms!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Francisco Civintiani!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Civintiani tries a head kick but it misses.
Civintiani shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Civintiani thows a body kick. Wimms tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Civintiani takes a swing at Wimms's ribcage but misses.
Civintiani darts in trying to clinch

and Wimms counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Civintiani has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wimms is working away from the top position though.
Wimms tries to pass the half guard into mount. Civintiani knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wimms performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Civintiani really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wimms. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wimms works his way into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wimms goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Civintiani has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Wimms but great work by Civintiani.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wimms wants to take his opponent's back but Civintiani doesn't allow it.
Civintiani is looking to improve his position but Wimms isn't that keen on the idea.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Wimms seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Civintiani for as long as he can get away with.

Civintiani pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Wimms back to the cage. Civintiani follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.


It looks like Jim Wimms has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wimms tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Civintiani manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Civintiani misses with a double jab.
Civintiani pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Francisco Civintiani is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Civintiani throws a head kick that misses.
Civintiani is breathing heavily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Civintiani.

Wimms closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wimms lands in his opponent's guard.
Civintiani is wriggling around but Wimms manages to pass to half guard.

Wimms is taking a breather. Civintiani says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Civintiani tries to reverse the position but Wimms maintains control.

Wimms jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Civintiani manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jim Wimms overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Civintiani seems a little lost for a moment, as Wimms dominates the positioning.

Wimms's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Civintiani loads up on a big right hand but Wimms slips the punch.
Wimms staying out of range there.
Wimms avoids the head kick by Civintiani.
Wimms tries to close the distance and clinch up but Civintiani swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Civintiani will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Francisco Civintiani seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wimms fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Civintiani manages to avoid it.

Wimms drives through with a takedown into Civintiani's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Wimms is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Civintiani knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Wimms wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Civintiani, who protects the arm well.

Wimms throws a strike aimed at the side of Civintiani's head but Civintiani avoids it well.
You can see the frustration on Civintiani's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Wimms is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Civintiani is trying to escape and Wimms transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Civintiani is forced to tap! Nice work there by Wimms! Very nice indeed!
