PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Short Stuff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stuff's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, High aggro damage/kicks. Velasquez has chosen Kryptonite as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stuff darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Velasquez swings widly with a right hand
and Stuff counters with a nice low kick that buckles Velasquez's knee momentarily.
Velasquez blocks a head kick by Stuff.
A slapping leg kick lands for Stuff.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown but Stuff shows good takedown defense.
Stuff throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Horrible takedown by Velasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Stuff which made him look bad.

Velasquez gets a takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stuff is defending against the submission attempts here by Velasquez.
Stuff has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Velasquez wants to take a breather but Stuff is having none of it.

Velasquez is just content to waste time from the top position. Stuff takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Stuff has Velasquez pulled in close to control his posture.

Velasquez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Stuff escapes and throws Velasquez's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Velasquez is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Stuff's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Stuff winds up and cracks Velasquez with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Stuff is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Velasquez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Stuff.
Stuff is pressing down on Velasquez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Velasquez is holding on for now.
Velasquez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Velasquez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Velasquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Stuff!

Velasquez sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Stuff wants to hold on but Velasquez pushes him away.

Velasquez passes to full mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velasquez wants to control the pace but Stuff is squirming around nicely.

Velasquez has control of Stuff's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stuff regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cain Velasquez will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Stuff lands with a nice body kick.
Velasquez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Stuff.

Short Stuff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velasquez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stuff sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Velasquez somewhat.

Stuff bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Velasquez's head backwards.
A nice leg kick lands there from Stuff.
Stuff scores with the left hand. Velasquez knows he should have avoided that one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stuff moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Velasquez on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Stuff. Stuff obviously looking to wear him down.
Velasquez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Stuff.
Velasquez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Velasquez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Stuff. Velasquez shrugs it off though.
A decent looking cross lands there for Stuff.
Velasquez's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Stuff steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Velasquez.

Stuff drops Velasquez with a nice combination! Stuff dives into Velasquez's guard, looking to finish!

Velasquez is rocked!
Stuff loads up on a big left hand. Velasquez felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Stuff looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Velasquez can't hide his disappointment, as Stuff celebrates the victory.
