Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lionel Messi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sterling Archer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Messi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Metallica - I Disappear. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sterling Archer!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Messi looks to score with a jab to the body but Archer is just out of range.
Archer fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Archer closes the distance and clinches up with Messi, looking for a takedown. Archer pushes Messi against the cage but Messi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Messi, right into the meat.
Archer doesn't manage to clinch there - Messi circles away.
Archer misses with a takedown
and Messi counters with a one-two to the body.
Lionel Messi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sterling Archer.
Messi looks to land a combination but Archer avoids it well.
Messi scoring well with a low kick there.
Archer shoots in but no luck this time.
Messi throws a hook but Archer avoids it easily.
Messi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A decent looking cross lands there for Messi.
It looks like Sterling Archer has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Archer counters with a thumping low kick.

Archer shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Archer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Messi regains full guard. Nicely done.
Messi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Messi wants to sweep here but Archer controlling him for the moment.
Archer wants to control from the top but Messi keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Messi is on top in guard.
Archer has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Messi is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Messi pulls guard successfully.
Archer stands and steps away. Messi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Archer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Archer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Messi throws a push kick but Archer slaps the foot to one side.
Archer shoots for a double leg takedown but Messi sprawls well. He's pushed Archer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A clash of legs there as Archer blocks the low kick.
Archer fails with the takedown
and Messi makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Archer closes this distance looking for a takedown but Messi circles away.
Lionel Messi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Archer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Messi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Messi leaves Archer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Messi turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Archer looks winded!
Messi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Archer.
Archer moves in looking to clinch but Messi pushes him off.
No luck for Archer with that takedown attempt.
Lionel Messi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Messi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Messi throws a nice looking combination but Archer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Messi cracks Archer with a right hand to the side of the head.
Messi tries a low kick but Archer avoids it.
Messi lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Archer is rocked!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Messi throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Archer stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Archer is still on wobbly legs! Can Messi finish him?
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Messi has cracked Archer with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Messi lands another huge swinging hook and Archer tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Archer, before Messi can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Lionel Messi!
After winning the bout, Lionel Messi thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
