Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Thompson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bam Bam! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thompson tries to close the distance and clinch but Bam swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Thompson shoots for a takedown but Bam saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Thompson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Thompson passes Bam's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Bam tries to roll over but Thompson keeps him under control. Thompson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Thompson moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Bam. Thompson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bam tries to escape but Thompson is in control. Thompson working the ground and pound. Thompson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bam seems a little lost for a moment, as Thompson dominates the positioning. Bam wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's one minute gone in the round. Thompson controlling from side mount. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bam can do anything to dispel that myth. Thompson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. The referee asks Thompson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Thompson prefers to stall for the moment though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bam is trying to control Thompson's posture but Thompson avoids it. Thompson controls the position. Bam really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thompson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Thompson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Bam moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thompson looking to score a takedown here. Bam is defending well but Thompson drives through and ends up in Bam's guard. Thompson sitting in guard, not really doing much. Thompson trying to control but Bam is working from the bottom. Thompson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bam's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Thompson performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Thompson wants to work for an arm triangle but Bam is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thompson thows a huge punch but Bam dodges it nicely.
Bam kicks Thompson off and gets back to his feet. Bam fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Thompson tries to clinch up. Bam circles away from the clinch attempt.
A punch combination from Thompson misses. We've been informed that Bam has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Bam pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bam avoids the head kick by Thompson.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bam looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bam throws a sloppy head kick and Thompson moves out of range easily. Thompson has been working on his balance at Basics -LOD- , so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Bam. Thompson shoots in and gets a takedown into Bam's guard. Bam being controlled here, momentarily. Bam wants to stand and escape but Thompson is having none of it. Bam looks winded! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Thompson content to stall in guard here. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
We're going to have a standup here because Paul Thompson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Thompson avoids the head kick by Bam.

Paul Thompson dominated that round. That's time! Thompson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Bam tries a head kick but it misses.
Bam darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Bam is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Thompson sees it coming and defends easily. Thompson is controlling Bam's trapped leg to prevent Bam from advancing to side control. Thompson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Bam postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Bam wants to control from the top but Thompson keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bam wants to stand but Thompson is controlling his posture from full guard. Bam looking to sit in guard and control but Thompson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Bam is breathing heavily. Thompson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bam is proving hard to escape from. Bam keeping moving, preventing Thompson from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thompson passes into half guard. Bam is trying to stand.
Thompson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Thompson passes to full mount! Thompson tries to control but Bam wriggling away. Thompson controlling the pace for now. Bam is trying desperately to improve position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thompson controlling his opponent. Thompson tries to control but Bam wriggling away. Thompson controlling the position easily from mount.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Paul Thompson just wasn't active enough. Bam throws a push kick but Thompson slaps the foot to one side.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thompson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Thompson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Thompson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Thompson controls the position from side control. Bam wants to get back to his feet but Thompson is dominant here and he's now got Bam's back! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thompson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Thompson is working for a rear naked choke. Bam is not defending it well and Thompson has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Bam refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Bam's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Paul Thompson!
